Oksana and Sergey, a Ukrainian couple residing in Odessa, were blessed with a daughter, but they yearned for a complete family and hoped to expand it by having another child.
During Oksana’s second pregnancy, she had a feeling that something was unique compared to her first experience. While she initially considered the possibility of carrying twins, the absence of a family history of twins led her to dismiss the idea.
“I was certain that I would never have an experience like this because no one in our family had ever been pregnant with twins,” Oksana revealed to the German news outlet, Heftig.
However, Oksana’s pregnancy took an astonishing turn that left people across the globe stunned. During an ultrasound appointment, she sensed that something was amiss as she observed the shock on her doctor’s face. He was on the verge of revealing some incredible news.
“My heart skipped a beat when I saw the expression on the doctor’s face,” Oksana recalled. “Then I overheard him muttering something like, ‘You deserve to have a large house by the sea…’”
Shortly after, he uttered, “I can see five, maybe six fetuses. It’s difficult to say.”
Oksana was in disbelief upon hearing the news. Could it be possible for her to carry so many babies? As it turned out, it was indeed true. She was pregnant with quintuplets, a rare occurrence with odds of 1 in 47,458,321 pregnancies.
Oksana was overwhelmed by the news and struggled to process it, feeling as though she was in a nightmare that she would wake up from at any moment. “It takes time to come to terms with this kind of news. I mean, how would we manage to take care of so many children?” her husband Sergey remarked.
At the 30th week of her pregnancy, Oksana underwent a C-section and was admitted to the hospital. She recalled that the medical staff treated her with great care and caution, as if she were made of fragile porcelain.
Although the babies were born a little prematurely, they were all born healthy and without complications.
Daria, Alexandra, Denis, Vladislav, and David quickly became national celebrities as they were the first-ever quintuplets born in Ukraine.
Raising five babies simultaneously was a daunting task, but Oksana and Sergey proved to be exceptional parents to their “five treasures” and their elder daughter.
