Methyl blue is guaranteed to cure sore throats, canker sores and wounds. Also, this can be an easier treatment option, even replacing antibiotics.

Methylene blue is a preparation with multiple therapeutic benefits, which enjoys increased attention, recently, both among patients and doctors; first of all, due to its antiseptic and antimicrobial effect. In medicine, methylene blue is used in the treatment of sore throats, urinary infections or for skin disinfection, being a versatile and easy-to-administer product.

Health benefits of methylene blue

Since its first use to treat malaria, methylene blue has also been administered to treat urinary tract infections, dementia and other neurological conditions, methemoglobinemia, but it has also been used as an antidepressant or to slow the aging process of the skin.

When combined with light therapy, methylene blue has been shown to be effective in controlling lichen planus which can cause swelling and irritation of the skin, hair and mucous membranes, in the treatment of recurrent herpes and other conditions.

Methylene blue is best known, however, for its antiseptic and antimicrobial effects in the treatment of colds and related symptoms, urinary tract infections, and neurological conditions.

In medical treatments, methylene blue is administered as lozenges, oral tablets, mouth spray, injectable treatment, and methylene blue solution. Methylene blue is safe when used in therapeutic doses of less than 2 mg/kg.

Methylene blue – remedy for sore throats

Sore throats can occur for various reasons, from the consumption of cold food or drinks, as a result of the drying of the oral mucosa and throat (a situation that occurs in people who have a stuffy nose and breathe more through the mouth), but also in a cold and flu.

Administration of methylene blue in the form of lozenges, which slowly dissolve in the mouth, ensures the slow release of this substance in the oral cavity. Methylene blue inactivates bacteria and viruses in the oral cavity and throat and reduces the risk of worsening local infection.

Methylene blue – treatment of cold

The common cold is, along with the flu, one of the most common respiratory viral infections and can be caused by about 200 viruses.

Colds primarily affect the throat and nose and are manifested by:

– pain and stinging in the throat
– sneezed
– cough
– stuffy nose or copious nasal secretions

Soreness and stinging in the throat can be lessened by taking methylene blue orally in lozenges. The oral cavity is, along with the nasal cavity, one of the gates through which viruses responsible for the appearance of colds can enter the body. For high efficiency, the tablets must be administered from the first symptoms or as soon as possible after the onset of the disease, in order to control and reduce the development of viruses in the oral cavity.

Methylene blue – treatment of urinary infections

Methylene blue also acts on the bacteria in the urinary tract that are responsible for the occurrence of urinary infections. Urinary tract infections occur most often in women, due to their anatomical peculiarities: the proximity between the anus and the urinary opening. More than 85% of urinary infections are caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli, and their appearance is favored by exposure to cold, genital infections, and kidney stones.

Methylene blue destroys and eliminates bacteria from the urinary tract, thanks to its disinfectant, antimicrobial and antiseptic properties. A noteworthy benefit of methylene blue is that it can be administered for long periods of time with low toxicity. Following oral administration of this substance, the urine will take on a blue or green color, a sign that methylene blue is eliminated through the urinary tract.

Methylene blue – treatment of mouth ulcers

Canker sores are small painful white formations surrounded by a reddish area that can appear as a result of viral or bacterial infections or due to a weakened immune system. Canker sores appear on the mucous membrane of the oral cavity or on the edge of the tongue and can cause local discomfort.

Due to its antiseptic and antimicrobial action, methylene blue is also an effective remedy in the treatment of mouth ulcers along with other local treatments. To treat canker sores, methylene blue solution is used, which is applied with a clean gauze directly to the canker sore, several times a day, until the symptoms subside.
